Whether you are in the Puget Sound region, Eastern Washington, Idaho, Oregon, or Alaska, as a member of our chapter you and your writing will find community and support at every step along the way.
What to expect:
A monthly newsletter highlighting upcoming events, member book releases, publishing news, writing and marketing opportunities, and member success stories.
A monthly members-only virtual social event where you will be able to connect with other writers and fans of the crime and mystery genre across our broad region. We theme these fun and casual events to the topic of the month. Emails go out with the Zoom link a day or so prior to the event, so keep an eye out for that!
Multiple presentations each year (via Zoom) on a wide range of subject matter experts such as publishers, agents, publicists, social media experts, authors, prosecutors, trackers, law enforcement, medical examiners—information you as mystery writers can use as you create plots, characters, settings, and dialog, as well as tools to get agented, published, and market your books.
We are looking to expand our regional in-person events as well. This could look like a coffee or cocktail hour, write-ins, readings, and other book-related events and festivals. We are especially focusing on growing in-person activities for members who live outside of the Seattle-metro area. If you have any ideas for these events in your area, please let us know and we will help you make that happen.
As much as possible, we keep events free or low-cost for members. Yes, some events are open (at a higher fee) to non-members—it helps introduce new people to the group—but MWA-NW maintains a number of members-only perks designed to support you wherever you are on your writing journey:
- MWA’s The Third Degree, a monthly magazine for members, covering timely news about authors, new books, learning opportunities, and the publishing industry
- Members-only opportunities to join in on local and virtual social hours and celebrations
- Advance notice to many local and national events before we alert the general public
- Special giveaways for members only
- Promotional opportunities, such as showcasing you and your books at in-person events

We are also working with other groups, including other local writing groups and MWA
